I’ve rebooted the site, and the blog.
As long-time readers (hi, Mom!) will no doubt recall, I started this site when blogs were in their infancy. At the time, blogs were the new Pet Rock, and attracted all manner of internet magpies, looking for shiny gewgaws. As a result, blogs themselves got a bit of a reputation as being boring exercises in narcissism, a kind of Geocities reinvented.
The world has come a long way since then. For one thing, Myspace really is Geocities reinvented, this time fused with social networks—which, come to think of it, may serve the same role in pop culture terms that blogs did in their infancy. Meanwhile, blogging has resolved into a rich but nonetheless fairly settled medium. Now smart people start blogs, and put things on them that are worth reading. Whole political and social communities have coalesced around the medium.
I assure you, dear reader, that I will not descend to that level of nonsense. Boring narcissism it is. Enjoy.
