   <title>Blog, take three.</title>

<p>I&#8217;ve rebooted the site, and the blog.</p>

<p>As long-time readers (hi, Mom!) will no doubt recall, I started this site when blogs were in their infancy. At the time, blogs were the new Pet Rock, and attracted all manner of internet magpies, looking for shiny gewgaws. As a result, blogs themselves got a bit of a reputation as being boring exercises in narcissism, a kind of Geocities reinvented.</p>

<p>The world has come a long way since then. For one thing, Myspace really <em>is</em> Geocities reinvented, this time fused with social networks&#8212;which, come to think of it, may serve the same role in pop culture terms that blogs did in their infancy. Meanwhile, blogging has resolved into a rich but nonetheless fairly settled medium. Now smart people start blogs, and put things on them that are worth reading. Whole <a href="http://www.dailykos.com/">political</a> and <a href="http://www.yarnharlot.com">social</a> communities have coalesced around the medium.</p>

<p>I assure you, dear reader, that I will not descend to that level of nonsense. Boring narcissism it is. Enjoy.</p>
